Light, medium or dark roast coffee? Learn what’s the best option for you!

When it comes to coffee there are endless options for you to choose between flavors and blends. But perhaps the most questioned one is the roast level of coffee.

Stop worrying, here you’ll find everything you need to know about coffee roasting and what it means when it comes to what type of coffee is perfect for you

Light Roast Coffee

Don´t be deceived by its light brown color. Contrary to what you might think, light roast coffee has the most caffeine levels.

With no caramelized oil on the surface of the coffee bean, these types usually are more acidic and have bright flavors. This is also why they are lighter in body.

When coffee is roasted this way, the uniqueness of the bean is preserved. That’s why out of all kinds of roasts, light roasted coffee has the most variable types of favors, aromas and aftertastes.

They are roasted at 350-400 degrees Fahrenheit

Tu put it simply: light roasted coffee is the most complex in favor since it reflects more accurately the natural qualities of the coffee

Medium Roast Coffee

Medium roast coffee can have an oily surface, but its not common. These types of coffees leave a slight bittersweet after taste.

They have a more balanced, well rounded flavor and are sweeter than light roast coffees.

They are roasted at 400-430 degrees Fahrenheit and are more accessible to any regular coffee drinker. Of course, this doesn’t mean that medium roasted coffee is in any way a less worthy drink

Dark Roast Coffee

You’ve probably guessed it by now, dark roast coffee has the lowest caffeine level of all kinds of roast. It also doesn’t preserve much of the original characteristics of the bean.

But this doesn’t mean that dark roast coffees are flavorless. In fact, they´re the best option for your sweet tooth since they make amazing blends with chocolate and caramel flavors.

Dark roast coffees reach 430-450 degrees Fahrenheit.

You can try them all!

Here at Endeavor Coffee Roasters you can purchase any kind od coffee roast that comes all the from Guatemala!

This small nation, known as “the country of eternal spring” is said to be the jewel of the Central America coffee industry.

Why? Well, with 37 volcanoes (don’t worry, nowadays, only 3 of them are active) and around 288 volcanic structures, Guatemala has an incredibly fertile land. This allows different types of coffee to be grown in various parts of the country, giving each crop a unique and special flavor.

The most common coffee beans they grow include Bourbon, Typica, Catuai, Caturra and Volcanic Peaberry

However…

Despite all the wonderful things there’s about Guatemalan coffee, the reality of the country is very different.

According to the World Bank Organization, in Guatemala “poverty, measured at the upper middle-income class line (US$5.5 per person per day in 2011), increased between 2006 and 2014 from 43.4 to 48.8 percent, adding almost 2 million people into poverty. Extreme poverty (having less than US$1.9 per person per day) affected 8.7 percent of the population in 2014, almost half a million more people than in 2000.”
